Over the last 20 years, I’ve been examining the future of sport, investigating how technology is changing its participants and its ecosystem. This page gives an overview of some of those discoveries and the ideas that I brought into the sports world to shape that direction.

 
 

historical context

My earliest work focused on how technology reimagines sports. We’ve seen this for decades and I’d even argue that technology and sport are intrinsically related.

Yet, technology often becomes so transformative that it causes people to question whether it is undermining the athletic abilities that we seek to celebrate and recognise by awarding medals and trophies to the victors.

Striking a balance is key, but so too is sports being able to reimagine themselves through technology. They have always done this and we’ve seen some sports communities branch into new formats which have then become greater than their original versions.

Being part of that re-imagination is exciting, but certainly unsettling to those practitioners or fans who think it is to the detriment of the sport as a whole.
