Augmented reality
Overlaying digital content onto a physical world. For instance, Pokemon Go was one of the most successful AR games. It used a phone’s camera to show the position of a Pokemon while in the game. A great example was found in 2017 when used within the Opening Ceremony of an esports event. Check it out here.
Mixed reality
Like augmented reality, but the digital content is anchored to the physical world, so you can move around it. Tthe Microsoft Hololens is a great AR platform
Virtual Reality
Entirely digital content - film or computer generated - in a closed headset experience usually. No integration of physical world elements. The Oculus Go or Samsung Gear VR are good examples here.
