My trip to Madrid in June was in the context of an initiative of Spain's BBVA bank, which launched a book titled 'Ethics and Values for the 21st Century'. I mentioned the book earlier in the year, but the media coverage around the book and the event focused on, expectedly, the banking system. The day before we arrived into Madrid, Spain had just confirmed the bailout for the banks, but BBVA was one of the two strongest banks which were not the focus of the concerns. It gave the Chairman a chance to signal the need for reform and a return to a more ethical foundation to banking. At the launch was the Spanish minister for Culture, who responded directly to my talk, which concluded the evening. As well, my talk was featured in this article published by El Pais the following day.
